Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS CBD?
CBD is the acronym for cannabidiol, a prominent, naturally-occurring molecule among more than 100 cannabinoids found in the plant genus cannabis sativa L. CBD comprises up to 40% of the plant’s extracts, and along with THC, are usually present in the highest concentrations, and therefore are the most recognized and studied compounds. CBD is non- psychoactive and may possess a wide range of benefits while not causing a high, unlike THC. Our bodies (and some animals’) have an endocannabinoid system, and naturally use cannabinoids to maintain healthy cells.
WHAT IS CBD OIL?
CBD is extracted from hemp plants that have high levels of CBD and low levels of THC. The extract is mixed with a carrier oil to make it easier to take and more readily absorbed. At TrulyAbove, we only use USDA organic coconut oil for our tinctures. And our CBD products always have less than 0.3% THC – the max allowed by law. The cannabidiol content of CBD oils on the market today varies tremendously, since the manufacturers use a variety of hemp strains and preparation techniques. Be sure to read the labels carefully, and ensure the dosage you desire.
HOW IS OUR CBD OIL MANUFACTURED?
Our hemp is grown and harvested in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. At TrulyAbove we use the most cutting-edge extraction methods, designed to keep the cannabinoids and terpenes as intact as possible, ensuring a natural product with all the benefits of the whole plant. This is commonly known as “full-spectrum” CBD, which means a wide range of cannabinoids, including trace THC. Research is showing that CBD in its natural state with the other cannabinoids present seems to have the best effect on the human body.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEMP & MARIJUANA?
Scientifically, industrial hemp and marijuana are the same plant, with a genus and species name of Cannabis sativa. However, they have a drastically different genetic profile though. Industrial hemp is always a strain of Cannabis sativa, while marijuana can be Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, or Cannabis ruderalis. The major difference is how industrial hemp has been bred compared to a marijuana form of Cannabis sativa. Typically speaking, industrial hemp is very fibrous, with long strong stalks, and barely has any flowering buds, while a marijuana strain of Cannabis sativa will be smaller, bushier, and full of flowering buds. However, newer industrial hemp varieties in the USA are being bred to have more flowers and higher yields of cannabinoids and terpenes.
Most marijuana has a high amount of THC and only a very low amount of CBD. Hemp, on the other hand, naturally has a high amount of CBD, and only a trace amount of THC. Fortunately, the cannabinoid profile of hemp is ideal for people looking for benefits from cannabis without the ‘high.’ Hemp is used for making herbal supplements, food, fiber, rope, paper, bricks, oil, natural plastic, and so much more, whereas marijuana is usually used recreationally, spiritually, and medicinally. The term cannabis oil can refer to either a marijuana or hemp derived oil, since marijuana and hemp are two different forms of cannabis.
In the U.S., the legal definition of “industrial hemp,” per Section 7606 of the Agricultural Appropriations Act of 2014, is “the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of such plant, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.”
HOW SHOULD I STORE MY CBD? WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE?
For the best shelf life please store in a cool dark area, this will assure there is no loss in potency. Don’t allow to sit in direct sunlight. If properly stored CBD in oil has around a 2-year shelf life.
WILL I FAIL A DRUG TEST IF I TAKE CBD PRODUCTS?
The hemp oil in our product contains CBD which is a legal cannabinoid from hemp. It contains minuscule amounts of THC that could possibly show up in a very sensitive drug screen. TrulyAbove cannot guarantee that you will or will not pass a drug screen due to the number of variables. Drug screens vary and some can be more sensitive than others. If you have to take a drug test, it is best to not use our product.
WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD OF USE?
For our dietary supplements, we recommend taking them sublingually (held under your tongue) for 60-90 seconds before swallowing. If you don’t like the flavor, you can mix with something sweet like apple sauce or honey to cut through the flavor, but note when eating CBD, the effects have been shown to take longer to take effect. However, in many people they also last longer!
WILL I GET HIGH?
No. Our CBD hemp extract products are all made from industrial hemp, which only has trace amounts of THC, so there is no psychoactive effect from taking our products.
